Jerry Birchfield (b. 1985) lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. He is an artist, the founder of Field Studio, LLC, and a Full-Time Lecturer in photography at Case Western Reserve University. He earned an MFA from Cornell University (2014) and a BFA in Photography from the Cleveland Institute of Art (2009). He received a John Hartell Graduate Award from Cornell University, the First Agnes Gund Traveling Award from the Cleveland Institute of Art and is a recent recipient of the SPACES Artist Forward Fund award. His art practice incorporates film and digital photography, darkroom processes, inkjet printing, drawing, print making, sculpture, installation, books, and collaborative performance as technical components in support of an exploration of the operation of images. Recent solo exhibitions include A Pale, A Post, A Boundary at Devening Projects, Chicago, IL; Jerry Birchfield: Asleep in the Dust at the Akron Art Museum, Akron, OH; and Stagger When Seeing Visions organized by the Cleveland Museum of Art at the Transformer Station, Cleveland, OH. In Cleveland, his work has been included in group exhibitions at Abattoir, the Museum of Contemporary Art, 2731 Prospect; and SPACES as well as Riffe Gallery and ROYGBIV in Columbus, the Print Center in Philadelphia, Schema Projects and Foley Gallery in New York, and a forthcoming group exhibition at the Los Angeles Center of Photography.
